Classical vinification with destalked, crushed grapes using the latest fermentation technology and long maceration periods. Aged for 24 to 30 months in American oak casks with appropriately-timed rankings. Aged in the bottle for at least 36 months before being put on the market.
Unmistakable personality of Cenicero wine. Ochre red with vinous character. Balanced, sensual taste, providing a general feeling of opulence. Good body and balance between tannins and acidity. Exceptionally persistent.
The Artacho family had a deep wine tradition when in 1890 they founded Bodegas Riojanas together with Rafael Carreras. Signs of this tradition are the stone door built in 1799 to provide access to the family vineyards and is now preserved at the entrance to the winery. Bodegas Riojanas controls more than 300 hectares of vineyard. From the best vineyards in Cenicero, San Vicente de la Sonsierra and nearby towns. The red grape par excellence in Rioja is Tempranillo, but Bodegas Riojanas also has one of the largest areas dedicated to Mazuelo and Graciano within the Denomination, varieties that provide greater personality to their wines. The different plots of vineyards are situated on clay-limestone soils, of Miocene origin, suitable for producing the highest quality wines.
In 1930 Bodegas Riojanas started exporting to sell wine in America. In 1933 the French winemaker Gabriel Larrendat returned home after spending several years in Bodegas Riojanas managing the elaboration and aging of the wines. It was he who named one of the wines of Bodegas Riojanas with the name “Monte Real”.
