Perched on the ridge between the Fumane and Marano valleys, Montecariano’s vineyards stretch across sun-soaked, south-facing limestone hillsides. Mariella Gini, along with her sons Matteo and Marco, is devoted to preserving the character of this land and resisting the pull of uniformity. Their mission: to protect and promote native grape varieties like Pelara, Oseleta, Molinara, Teroldego, and Croatina, alongside the region’s classics—Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella. For the Gini family, each bottle is a tribute to memory, heritage, and the distinct soul of its territory.

WINE: Amarone Classico Reserva

TERROIR: Valpolicella Classico
GEOGRAPHICAL POSITION: San Pietro in Cariano, at the foot of the hills.
TYPE: Dry red wine.
GRAPE VARIETIES: 60% Corvina/Corvinone, 20% Rondinella, 20% Molinara/Croatina/Pelara

VINIFICATION AND AGING
This vineyard, kissed by the breezes from Lake Garda, enjoys a special microclimate where the natural amphitheatre shape of the land plays home to a range of birds and the Amarone produced there gives it full expression. The lime in the soil enriches the aromas of the wines and makes them ideal for aging.
The grapes are harvested in mid-September, exclusively by hand. The bunches are individually selected according to ripeness and overall technical quality.
The grapes are dried in special ventilated rooms for around 15 weeks, then the grapes are de-stemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation takes place in steel vats, at a constant temperature of 18-20°C and with continuing punch-downs, for around 50 days.
Aged for 5 years in large barrels, and another 1 year in bottle before release.

TASTING NOTES
Alluring aromas of ripe Morello cherry, balsamic, raisins, chocolate covered espresso beans, hazelnut and spices. Concentrated and silky flavors of cherry, raspberry jam, raisin, and prunes enveloped in black pepper, dark chocolate, licorice and warm spices that lead to a long, lingering finish.
